Area of Research

I’m a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University. I received my PhD (psychology & data science) from Harvard University under the mentorship of Mahzarin Banaji and with support from the National Science Foundation. My dissertation work explored when and why our implicit associations conflict with ground truth data or consciously held beliefs. For instance, why is it so difficult to associate all racial/ethnic groups with the concept of “human” or to imagine a female surgeon? I’m also interested in the use (or misuse) of big data and artificial intelligence. For example, how can we protect the anonymity of research subjects in open datasets? How can we measure social biases in generative AI?
